According to ABC News, Noarlunga Downs resident Levi Michael Young-Henderson, 20, has avoided jail after stringing wire across a bike path beside Adelaide’s Southern Expressway and injuring cyclists in January 2025.

Young-Henderson pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of acting likely to cause harm and four counts of damaging property. He had initially faced the more serious charges of acting likely to cause serious harm. Christies Beach Magistrates Court gave him a total sentence of 11 months and five days, suspended after he entered a two-year good behaviour bond.

The court heard that Young-Henderson, who worked as a fencing worker, stretched wire across the path at Hackham West on January 10 and 13, 2025. In the first incident, three male cyclists travelling at about 35km/h were knocked from their bikes and suffered severe grazing. Their bicycles were destroyed.

In a second incident, a female rider was not injured, but her bicycle’s handlebars were damaged. Police obtained mobile-phone footage of the wire that was accompanied by a devil emoji and the words “I’m so evil”, the court heard. Young-Henderson handed himself in to police and identified himself as the person shown in CCTV footage.

A prosecutor previously described the conduct as significant and serious, saying it put members of the public at risk of serious harm. The prosecutor said the actions caused damage exceeding $50,000 in the value of the bicycles when purchased.
