According to ABC News, a large section of scaffolding partially collapsed onto parked vehicles on Wattle Street in Sydney’s inner-city suburb of Ultimo on Saturday shortly before 6:45pm. SafeWork NSW said no-one was injured.

The incident was the second safety event within weeks at the development site. CCTV footage showed scaffolding giving way in strong winds and narrowly missing drivers on the street. SafeWork NSW inspectors attended the site and issued regulatory notices, including a prohibition notice to the site managers.

Lisa, who lives a few doors from the site, said she heard a loud bang during windy conditions and initially believed metal was being dragged across the road. After reviewing security video, she said she believed the structure at the front of the building, along with additional panels, had not been secured and fell onto the road.

A wall and roof at the same site collapsed onto a nearby petrol station last month, seriously injuring two men, one in his 60s and another in his 30s. They were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Five other people were assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

The former rehearsal studio has been approved for demolition to make way for a multi-storey mixed-use development. SafeWork NSW is investigating the latest incident, while Macroview Projects, which is managing the development, has been contacted for comment.
