City of Parramatta tonight made history by electing Councillor Cameron MacLean as Lord Mayor, making him the youngest person elected to the role in Parramatta.

Representing the Epping Ward, Lord Mayor Cr MacLean, 28, will lead Australia’s fastest-growing City into its next chapter.

Cr MacLean said he is honoured to be elected to the role as Parramatta continues its transformation into a globally recognised centre for culture, education, business and innovation.

“Parramatta is no longer a city of the future, it is a city helping shape Australia’s future,” Cr MacLean said.

“It is an incredible honour to be elected Lord Mayor and to serve the community I am proud to call home.

“My focus for this term is ensuring Parramatta continues to lead with ambition, delivers for our growing communities and strengthens our position as Australia’s premier global city.

“Together with my fellow Councillors, we will continue attracting investment, delivering world-class infrastructure and creating vibrant public spaces that support our growth while preserving the unique character that makes Parramatta such a special place.

“Under my leadership, we will continue to deliver the services that our community wants, needs and can be proud of.

“We have an exciting period ahead, from delivering flagship events such as Parramatta Lanes to opening major projects and rolling out initiatives that enhance the experiences of residents, businesses and visitors alike.”

Council also elected Councillor Kellie Darley as its Deputy Lord Mayor.

Councillor Darley, who represents the Dundas Ward, said it was a privilege to be elected as Deputy Lord Mayor.

“I’m thrilled to be able to work alongside the Lord Mayor, my fellow councillors and staff to create a bright new chapter in our history as we deliver our plans to strengthen and rebuild our organisation,” Cr Darley said.

“This is an exciting opportunity for City of Parramatta to set the standard of excellence in the local government sector where staff feel proud to work here and the community feel proud to call our City home.

“I remain committed to strong governance, transparency and ensuring our community has the services they need, so Parramatta continues to be one of the best places in Australia to live, work and raise a family.”

The Lord Mayor will hold the position until September 2028 and the Deputy Lord Mayor will hold the position until September 2027.
