According to Cnbc, private-sector companies added 90,000 jobs in September, a pickup from the downwardly revised 36,000 added in August. The ADP report exceeded the Dow Jones consensus estimate of 68,000 and followed what ADP described as a three-month slowdown in job creation.

Service providers added 59,000 positions, while goods producers contributed 31,000. Education and health services led growth with 55,000 new hires. Leisure and hospitality added 22,000 jobs, manufacturing gained 17,000, and construction added 15,000.

Some industries reported losses. Financial activities shed 16,000 jobs, professional and business services lost 11,000, and natural resources and mining declined by 1,000. Regionally, the Northeast accounted for much of the overall gain, adding 56,000 jobs. Companies employing 50 to 499 workers posted a gain of 54,000.

Base pay rose 3.2% from a year earlier, while gross pay increased 4.7%. ADP chief economist Nela Richardson called it a strong report, saying job creation rebounded and pay growth remained solid. The release comes before Friday’s Bureau of Labor Statistics nonfarm payrolls report, for which Wall Street expects an 84,000-job gain and an unemployment rate of 4.1%.
