According to ABC News, Northern Territory Police have charged a man after he was allegedly detected driving more than 100km/h above the speed limit with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.153.
Police said officers saw the man travelling at 182km/h in an 80km/h zone on Elrundie Avenue in Moulden, outside Darwin, shortly after 8pm on Saturday.
The man was taken to Palmerston police station, where police said he recorded more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit for unrestricted drivers. He also tested positive for two prohibited drugs, according to an NT Police spokesperson.
He has been charged with driving at a dangerous speed, high-range drink-driving and drug-driving. He was granted bail and is due to face Darwin Local Court on October 20.
Territory Road Policing officer-in-charge Devrim Kanyilmaz said the alleged behaviour could have resulted in lives being lost on the roads. He thanked the Territory Road Policing team for an intervention he said quite possibly saved lives.
