According to ABC News, police are investigating after a body was found partially submerged in a livestock treatment trough on a property at Terragon in northern New South Wales.

Two trail bike riders discovered the body at about 11:20am on Monday while travelling on a track through the Kyogle Road property, about 20 kilometres south-west of Murwillumbah. Police said the tank was used to treat livestock for ticks and other parasites.

The body was about 300 metres off the road, down an overgrown track. Detective Inspector Matt Zimmer, Crime Manager for the Tweed/Byron Police District, said police believed it was female but could not provide further details because of the advanced decomposition.

Police established a crime scene overnight, with detectives and specialist forensic officers examining the property and the body. Inspector Zimmer said the remote location, and the absence of a vehicle or other transport, meant the death was being treated as suspicious.

Police have spoken with neighbours and taken statements, while checking missing-person registers in NSW and Queensland. A post-mortem examination is expected this week to establish the woman’s identity and cause of death. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tweed Heads Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
