Arabic version: سامسونغ تتوقع أرباحاً فصلية قياسية بقيمة 80 مليار دولار
According to BBC News, Samsung Electronics expects its operating profit for the three months to the end of September to rise nine-fold from a year earlier to 107.4tn won (£61bn; $80bn), driven by demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence data centres.
The forecast would mark Samsung’s fourth consecutive quarter of record earnings. The company is one of the world’s largest memory chip makers, alongside South Korea’s SK Hynix and US firm Micron. Their chips are crucial for AI companies such as Nvidia.
Samsung is also one of the world’s biggest smartphone makers and is expected to receive a boost from folding devices launched in August, including Galaxy Fold and S26 smartphones. The company is due to release its full third-quarter earnings at the end of October.
Global demand for chips powering AI development has lifted earnings and share prices for manufacturers linked to the technology. A semiconductor shortage has pushed up sales for firms including Samsung and led companies to raise prices, making products such as smartphones and computers more expensive.
US technology giants Google, Amazon and Meta have pledged to invest more than $650bn in AI projects this year. In June, South Korea announced plans for at least $880bn in projects led by Samsung and SK Hynix to expand the country’s chip manufacturing capabilities.
