Arabic version: هجمات المستوطنين تعطل موسم قطف الزيتون في الضفة الغربية
According to Al Jazeera, Israeli settlers carried out attacks and pogroms that disrupted the Palestinian olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, while Israeli forces separately detained Palestinians across the territory. The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission recorded at least 19 settler attacks on Friday.
The commission said the incidents included attacks on olive harvesters, the burning and uprooting of olive trees, and theft of crops and livestock. More than 50 olive trees were uprooted in Qusra. In the Tal, settlers assaulted and injured farmers and set a Palestinian-owned vehicle on fire, the commission said.
Olive harvesters were also attacked in Jorish, Beita, Naqoura, Birzeit, Deir Bzeih and Farata. A farmer was injured in reported gunfire in Kafr ad-Dik, while live ammunition was reported during a settler pogrom in Deir Ballut that was backed by Israeli forces. In Berin, an elderly Palestinian woman was injured after settlers set dogs on farmers, and sheep were stolen in Ein Qinya.
Al Jazeera correspondent Nida Ibrahim, reporting from Ramallah, said Palestinians were harvesting in large groups that included international solidarity activists to try to deter intimidation and attacks. She said settlers wait for groups to begin leaving harvesting areas before acting, and that intimidation continues under the protection of the Israeli army.
Separately, the Israeli army arrested 16 Palestinians in raids across the occupied West Bank on Friday, according to the Palestinian Wafa news agency and local sources speaking to Anadolu. Nine people were arrested in Hebron, including Ibrahimi Mosque Director Moataz Abu Sneineh and mosque custodian official Hammam Abu Markhiya. Five Palestinians were arrested in Qalqilya and two in Beita, south of Nablus.
