According to BBC News, Donald Trump has selected conservative commentator Katie Zacharia as the next White House press secretary. Zacharia, who works for Trump Media & Technology Group, will become the US president’s sixth chief spokesperson across his two administrations. She replaces Karoline Leavitt, who left the White House in August and has reportedly taken a job with Fox News.

Trump described Zacharia as “loyal” and “a devoted fan and member of MAGA” in a Truth Social post, saying she had an “unblemished record of support”. He said she had assisted in key swing states during his campaigns, where “we won 7 out of 7”, and expressed confidence that she would work effectively with the media, the American people and his administration.

Zacharia thanked Trump on X, calling the role “the honor of a lifetime” at what she described as a critical 250-year mark. She said she looked forward to working with the White House press corps and reporters across the country to communicate the administration’s record. The 42-year-old strategist has been a frequent presence on Newsmax and Fox News and has been involved in Republican politics for most of her adult life.

Her earlier roles include an internship with the Republican National Committee and work in the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Bush administration in 2006. Her LinkedIn profile says she has been a senior communications adviser for Trump’s media company and Truth Social since June. She also worked at the Department of Homeland Security from February to March this year.

A lawyer educated at Pepperdine University in California, Zacharia previously served as general counsel for Fix California, a conservative non-profit started by Trump ally Ric Grenell. She also spent nearly two years clerking at a law firm in Beijing in 2011. The press secretary’s role includes managing relationships with the press, coordinating within the White House and providing media advice to the president.
