According to ABC News, a 29-year-old man has been denied bail after allegedly shooting at a car in Canberra’s south on Friday night, seriously injuring a teenage passenger. He was charged with using a firearm to endanger human life and appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court.

Police said four teenagers were travelling in a red Ford Falcon on Abrahams Crescent and Beaumaris Street in Conder when they encountered a red Hyundai i30 hatchback. The Hyundai’s driver allegedly followed the Ford along Tom Roberts Avenue to the intersection of Box Hill Avenue and Tharwa Drive.

At about 10pm, the driver allegedly shot at the Ford, striking a back-seat passenger, police said. The vehicle’s occupants called police and were directed to Tuggeranong Police Station, where officers gave the teenager first aid before ACT Ambulance Service paramedics took the teen to hospital with serious injuries.

Police established a crime scene in Conder and said they later saw a man leave a bush on Greaves Place and enter a waiting red Audi at about 11.30pm. The Audi was found outside the 29-year-old’s Gordon home shortly afterwards, police said.

The court heard the accused allegedly pursued the Ford before firing two or three shots into it. Magistrate James Lawton refused bail, citing a risk the man could access the firearm, which police had not located. Police said he was also subject to parole conditions. The matter is due back in court on November 4. Investigators are seeking witnesses and CCTV from Beaumaris Street residents.
