According to The Guardian, Matt Renshaw scored 190 to lead Australia from trouble to a commanding position in the first Test against South Africa in Durban. Australia were bowled out for 390 before South Africa reached 27 for one at stumps on the second day.

Renshaw came in with Australia under pressure and, after the side had been 124 for six on the first day, produced his second Test century and surpassed his previous career-best score of 184. His 190 was his first Test hundred in nine years.

Pat Cummins contributed 43 in a partnership of 86 with Renshaw, while Nathan Lyon made 27 from 92 balls. Renshaw and Lyon added 134 for the ninth wicket, Australia’s second-highest partnership for that wicket. Lyon had not previously featured in a century stand during his 144-Test career.

Renshaw was eventually caught at slip after driving off-spinner Simon Harmer. His innings set a Durban record for the highest score by an Australian and the highest score by a batter at number five or below.

Australia then had fewer than nine overs to bowl before bad light halted play. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Ryan Rickelton, leaving South Africa 363 runs behind heading into the third day.
