Step back in time and discover Parramatta’s rich history with a free day of family fun at Foundation Day this month, with live entertainment, hands-on workshops, heritage tours, market stalls and delicious BBQ food and drinks.

Families can enjoy a self-guided history trail, live entertainment, market stalls and family-friendly activities on Saturday 31 October from 9am to 2pm.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Cameron MacLean said Foundation Day was a unique opportunity to celebrate the people, places and events that have shaped the City.

“As our City continues to evolve into a vibrant destination for culture and innovation, it’s important that we also preserve and share the history that underpins our identity and sense of place,” Cr MacLean said.

“Events like Foundation Day strengthen community pride and connection by celebrating the people, stories and landmarks that have contributed to Parramatta’s success story.

“There will be live music, market stalls, interactive activities, great food stalls and plenty of fascinating stories to discover, all in one of Parramatta’s most treasured heritage settings.”

With special significance this year as Australia marks 125 years of Federation, the annual event commemorates the beginning of Parramatta’s agricultural history on 2 November 1788 and recognises the City’s pivotal role as the cradle city in shaping modern Australia.
