According to ABC News, former childcare worker Ashley Paul Griffith will be extradited from Queensland to New South Wales to stand trial on additional charges relating to children. A Brisbane magistrate accepted an application by the NSW attorney-general on Tuesday morning, with Griffith’s lawyers not opposing the move.

Griffith is serving life in prison in Queensland after admitting offences against 69 girls at early learning centres in Brisbane and Italy over two decades. NSW Local Court records show he faces 202 charges in that state, including sexual intercourse with a child under 10, indecent assault of a person under 16 and producing child abuse material.

Queensland Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said she had worked with NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley for several months on the extradition. She said she supported the application because victims deserved their time in court. Daley said Griffith would be brought to NSW to face justice there and thanked the Queensland attorney-general for the cooperation.

The NSW attorney-general made the extradition application in July. No transfer date has been set, but NSW Police said arrangements were being made. In 2024, Griffith was ordered to serve 27 years before being eligible for parole. He lost an appeal in June seeking to reduce that period, and was eligible to reapply for release in 2049.
