According to BBC News, Paris St-Germain boss Luis Enrique said he was surprised to learn Manchester City had been found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules and hopes the club can avoid sanctions. City host European champions PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday at 20:00 BST, in their first home match since the guilty verdict.

An independent commission found City had broken rules over a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018. The commission said the club used “sham” contracts with commercial partners to secretly funnel more than £830m into their football operations. City insist they are innocent and have appealed.

Enrique said there was often “noise” around big clubs and that the final decision should be awaited. He said City’s achievements on the pitch over recent years had been incredible and that they deserved the trophies they won. “The authorities are responsible for making these decisions,” he said, adding that he hoped the club could avoid a sanction while the process continued.

The PSG coach is friends with former City boss Pep Guardiola, who is expected to make his first return to Etihad Stadium on Wednesday since leaving at the end of last season after winning 20 trophies in 10 years. France forward Ousmane Dembele said it was always difficult to play City, citing their high-quality team, world-class players and top coach.
