Arabic version: ترامب يربط هجمات الحوثيين بأسعار النفط
According to Al Jazeera, United States President Donald Trump said Yemen’s Houthi rebel group was stepping up attacks on infrastructure in Saudi Arabia to raise energy prices before the US midterm elections.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump said the Houthis had been silent for a long time but had “emerged again”, probably at Iran’s behest. He accused the group of hitting Saudi Arabia and “purposefully trying to drive up Oil Prices, probably prior to the US Elections”.
Trump also described the Houthis as behaving “very badly” and repeated his threat that the United States could increase military attacks across the Middle East after the November elections. He said he would “never forget” the attacks on Saudi Arabia, adding that he had already won the election “IN A MASSIVE LANDSLIDE”.
Trump’s decision to launch a war on Iran with Israel in February has been followed by rising energy prices and concern over living costs in the US. Voters will soon decide whether his Republican Party keeps its majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate. Democrats hope frustration over the war and higher costs will help them win one or both chambers.
Polls have shown Trump’s war on Iran is deeply unpopular. A recent AP-NORC poll found that nearly 70 percent of voters said the war was not worth fighting. Trump has called unfavourable polls “fake” and cited crowds at his political rallies as evidence of his popularity.
