According to Cnbc, Singapore’s economic expansion slowed to 5.4% in the third quarter of 2026, while still exceeding economists’ expectations for 5% growth.

The result was down from revised growth of 6.2% in the preceding quarter, when the economy reached a four-year high. Government data attributed the slower pace to a decline in manufacturing, one of the city-state’s largest sectors and a contributor of about 20% of GDP.

An expansion in construction offset the manufacturing weakness. Singapore had raised its annual growth forecast in August after AI-related sectors and exports helped the economy beat expectations in the first two quarters of the year.

The government’s 2026 GDP forecast remains 4.5% to 5.5%, compared with its earlier 2% to 4% forecast. At the start of the year, the Ministry of Trade and Industry had projected growth of 1% to 3%.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore recently held monetary policy steady following two consecutive tightening rounds in April and July. It said the economy should continue expanding at a firm pace in the immediate quarters before moderating as the AI cycle eases and global financial conditions tighten.
