Arabic version: غارة إسرائيلية تقتل امرأة في مدينة غزة

According to Al Jazeera, an Israeli air strike on an apartment block in Gaza City killed a Palestinian woman and wounded two other people early on Wednesday.

Reem Asaad Awad, 33, was killed in the attack in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood, Anadolu reported, citing a source at Al Shifa hospital. Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reported from Gaza City that the strike occurred at 4am, or 01:00 GMT.

The hospital source said the strike caused extensive destruction to the targeted apartment and nearby buildings. Awad’s daughter was rescued from a large fire that broke out after the attack.

Israel said it was investigating the strike and claimed it had targeted a Hamas member, without providing evidence. Al Jazeera reported that Israel has killed 1,501 Palestinians in Gaza since agreeing a ceasefire with Hamas last October.

Talks on the second phase of a United States-backed plan have stalled. That phase includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces and Hamas’s disarmament. The agreement calls for 600 trucks of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza each day, but Israeli authorities have continued to impose severe restrictions on supplies, while reconstruction has not begun.
