According to Cnbc, all six major bank stocks fell after third-quarter earnings reports, despite several stronger-than-expected results. Jim Cramer said investors appeared focused on persistent inflation, rising interest rates and wobbly capital markets rather than reported quarterly positives.

Wells Fargo beat earnings estimates but missed revenue expectations. Its net interest margin stabilized at 2.43%, slightly above expectations, after missing such estimates in nine of the previous 10 quarters. Shares fell after the report, though Cramer’s Charitable Trust upgraded the stock to a buy-equivalent rating. Wells Fargo shares rose slightly Wednesday.

JPMorgan Chase missed expectations on revenue and earnings, as fixed-income trading and asset management weakened and expenses rose faster than revenue. Management gave better-than-expected net interest income forecasts for the fourth quarter and 2027, and the stock recovered much of its initial losses before gaining nearly 1% Wednesday.

Citigroup reported revenue growth of 8% year over year and raised its full-year net interest income outlook, but its shares dropped 5.6% after the report and another 1.8% Wednesday. Bank of America missed revenue and earnings expectations while facing a $1.2 billion regulatory penalty; its shares fell roughly 5%.

Goldman Sachs beat top- and bottom-line estimates, supported by a 21% increase in investment-banking fees and a 72% rise in equities-trading revenue. Its shares nevertheless finished Tuesday slightly lower and lost another 1.5% Wednesday. Cramer’s Charitable Trust upgraded Goldman to a buy-equivalent rating, viewing the pullback as a buying opportunity. Morgan Stanley also topped expectations, but its shares fell almost 3%.
