According to ABC News, a Perth woman has been charged after allegedly placing poisonous snail pellets in a colleague’s curry at a workplace in Oldbury, south-east of Perth.

Police said the incident occurred in February after a 58-year-old woman brought a container of curry to work to share with colleagues. Employees ate the food during a morning tea break without issue.

When the woman returned to eat more curry at lunchtime, she allegedly noticed bright green granules in the food. After tasting it, she reported numbness on her tongue. The food was retained and later provided to police.

Police allege that, between morning tea and lunch, a 43-year-old woman entered a chemical storage shed before returning to the staff room where the food was kept and adding snail pellets to the curry. Detectives allegedly identified the substance as pellets containing metaldehyde, which police described as poisonous.

The woman has been charged with one count of endangering the life, health or safety of a person. Police said the two women were in a “personal relationship” together. She is due to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on November 5.
