According to Al Jazeera, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Israeli President Isaac Herzog that Israel should stop and reverse the “forced establishment” of West Bank settlements during a meeting in Azerbaijan.

China’s foreign ministry said Wang told Herzog that Beijing has consistently regarded the Palestinian question as the greatest historical injustice of this century. The ministry issued its statement on Friday.

Wang said the two-state solution was the right path towards resolving the conflict. He also said the immediate priority was to fully open access to the Gaza Strip so that a humanitarian “catastrophe” would not be allowed to spread.

The foreign minister said China was willing to work with the international community to encourage all parties to return to dialogue as soon as possible and seek a political settlement.

Wang was attending the Seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia in Baku, Azerbaijan, as the special representative of President Xi Jinping, China’s state news agency Xinhua reported.
