Arabic version: الحكومة اليمنية تعلن سقوط صاروخين قرب مطار عدن
According to Al Jazeera, Yemen’s internationally recognised government said the Houthis fired two missiles that landed near the runway at Aden International Airport on Friday. Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said the impact point was 500 metres, or 1,640 feet, from an aircraft preparing to take off.
Al-Eryani said all passengers and crew were safe. He thanked “divine providence” for averting what he described as a potential “horrific humanitarian catastrophe” and called the airport attack a grave violation of international laws and norms. The reported strike came a day after a deadly attack targeting the presidential palace in the port city, which is the seat of the internationally recognised government.
The Houthis said, in a statement attributed to a military source, that they had attacked the Saudi forces’ command headquarters at Badr camp in Aden province and a weapons depot, AFP reported. The claims came as fighting continued between the Saudi-backed government and the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen’s reignited civil war.
Government forces said they had advanced in Marib province, northeast of Sanaa. Military spokesman Majed al-Nazili said troops, supported by air power, had secured key positions in the eastern part of the province. He also said government forces had neutralised more than 430 Houthi fighters in 24 hours and destroyed or disabled more than 100 vehicles and military assets.
In Taiz governorate, government forces said they had repelled several large-scale Houthi attacks and captured a specialised drone team affiliated with the group. Houthi forces have encircled Taiz, Yemen’s third-largest urban centre, by cutting its main road south to Aden, causing displacement and worsening the humanitarian crisis. Separately, the Saudi-led coalition said it downed missiles and drones over Riyadh and other parts of Saudi Arabia, while Iran rejected Saudi accusations that it had encouraged Houthi attacks.
