According to ABC News, South Australian health authorities have found no records relating to a woman or a deceased baby boy at the centre of an unexplained death at the Tollgate Motel in Glen Osmond.
Health Minister Blair Boyer said a search of SA Health databases returned no data for the child or his 42-year-old mother, Yue Ning Lieu, who is also known as Linda Lieu. He said SA Health sites use a shared electronic medical record system, meaning information would be searchable if they had attended an aligned service in South Australia.
The baby was discovered at the motel, south-east of the Adelaide CBD, on October 10. Police said post-mortem analysis indicated the boy was between six and seven months old and had been deceased for a period of time. Authorities have not confirmed where he was born. Boyer said it was not necessarily the case that the child had been born interstate and that the question would be answered in time.
Lieu and the child’s father, Benjamin Nicholas Houghton, 40, have been charged with criminal neglect and concealing human remains. They have been detained under the Mental Health Act. Police said the parents had been staying at the motel since arriving in South Australia at the beginning of the year. They appeared in a bedside court hearing on Monday and were remanded in custody until May 2027, while South Australian Police investigations continue.
