Arabic version: خفض المساعدات الغذائية يهدد الوضع الإنساني في غزة
According to Al Jazeera, the World Food Programme is being forced by funding shortages to cut its operations in Gaza, where more than two million people had hoped a United States-brokered “ceasefire” last year would improve the humanitarian situation.
The programme says the reduction means half a million Palestinians in the enclave will no longer receive badly needed food aid. Food supplies were already scarce, and the cuts are set to put further pressure on access to assistance.
Al Jazeera reported that Israel has not stopped its attacks since the ceasefire was brokered to end its war on Gaza. The broadcaster asked how the gap left by the World Food Programme’s reduced operations can be closed.
The issue was discussed by presenter Imran Khan with Tamer Qarmout, an associate professor of public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies; Mohammed Salah, entrepreneur and founder of Tech from Palestine; and Natasha Hall, senior advocate for the Middle East with Refugees International and an associate fellow at Chatham House.
