According to ABC News, Harley Adams, 19, has been granted bail after appearing in Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on hate crime charges linked to alleged threats against a family at a Morningside unit block.
Police alleged Adams yelled racist insults and threatened to “blow up” the building during an incident in the early hours of Monday morning. Police prosecutor Sergeant Matt Kahler described the alleged conduct as an “extraordinary racist outburst”.
Sergeant Kahler said Adams allegedly believed the victims had made a complaint that resulted in his eviction. The court heard he was apologetic after being told that no such complaint had been made.
Police also alleged residents in the unit complex had been breaking their leases and moving out because of Adams’s behaviour. Magistrate Peter Saggers told Adams the courts treated violent claims seriously.
Adams must wear an electronic monitoring device, stay away from the unit complex and its residents, and report to a local police station three times a week while on bail. The matter was adjourned to November 16.
