Arabic version: كومو يحتفل بفوز تاريخي على مانشستر يونايتد

According to BBC News, Como marked a historic night by beating Manchester United 4-1 in the Champions League at the rain-hit Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium. The Serie A side, who were playing in Serie D when United won their last Champions League title in 2008, produced a dominant display beside Lake Como.

Cesc Fabregas’ team repeatedly cut through United, extending the English club’s winless run in all competitions to seven games, their longest such sequence since 2015. Nico Paz was central to Como’s performance, scoring twice and creating another goal. The 22-year-old Argentina international, signed from Real Madrid in 2024, has four goals and five assists in eight appearances since the start of September.

Como staff described the victory over United as the biggest night in the club’s history. Chief executive Mirwan Surwaso said the club’s amateur status had initially attracted London-based media company Sent Entertainment, owned by Indonesian billionaires Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono, before a 2019 deal. The original plan involved matches featuring young Indonesian players, but Como’s promotions changed the direction of the project.

Fabregas, who arrived as a player and later became head coach, led Como to fourth place in 2025-26 and Champions League qualification. He said the club had become “another world” compared with when he finished his playing career there, while urging his squad to focus on what lies ahead. Como face questions over Uefa financial rules and the uncovered sections of their 12,300-capacity stadium, but supporters who followed the club in Serie D remain determined to enjoy the journey.
