According to Al Jazeera, Israeli forces turned Palestinian homes in Hebron into barracks and observation posts after residents were forced to leave, as a military operation continued in the southern occupied West Bank. The Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing sources, said homes in Khallat Manna and Dahiyat al-Zaytoun were taken over for use as barracks, while residents in other neighbourhoods were forced from properties used as observation posts.
The Israeli military imposed a lockdown on Hebron and carried out hundreds of raids after two armed Palestinian men allegedly attacked an Israeli army reserve base on Friday, killing two soldiers. The two suspects were also killed. The operation has included road closures and strict movement restrictions, following the displacement of hundreds of families, the report said.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said Israeli forces had detained at least 47 Palestinians across Hebron since Friday and forcibly displaced 293 families, or about 2,200 people. Those displaced include 127 infants, 81 pregnant women and 26 people with disabilities, the NGO told Al Jazeera. It also reported that 134 people with chronic illnesses and 265 people aged over 60 were among those affected. The group said troops conducted hundreds of field interrogations involving detention and abuse.
Separately, settlers began establishing two new outposts on Palestinian-owned land near Yatta, south of Hebron, Wafa reported. Activist Osama Makhamra said settlers placed a tent and brought bulldozers and excavation equipment to Khallet al-Fara, west of Yatta, where land was being levelled and dug for construction. He said another outpost was set up between az-Zuweidin and Umm Qussa, with tents and water and electricity infrastructure. Near Bethlehem, forces continued closing roads and entrances for a third day, affecting towns and villages.
