According to BBC News, two men were arrested after three police officers were injured during a street disturbance outside a bare-knuckle fighting championship at Glasgow’s Ovo Hydro on Saturday evening.

Footage circulating on social media showed a group of men trading punches in the street. Police said they received reports of a large disturbance in the Congress Road area at about 23:10. More than 20 police vehicles and a police helicopter converged on the area.

Police Scotland said two officers required medical treatment. Two men, aged 32 and 27, were arrested and charged with offences including assault, obstructing police and threatening and abusive behaviour. They will be reported to prosecutors.

Three other men were arrested and issued with recorded police warnings for threatening and abusive behaviour and breach of the peace. Police said inquiries were continuing and asked anyone with information to contact them.

Ch Insp Paul Daley said several officers had been assaulted while carrying out their duties following the event. He said violence against officers was “disgraceful and will not be tolerated”, adding that it was fortunate they had not been seriously injured.

Thousands had earlier attended the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event, where Sean Weir of Wishaw defeated Leigh Cohoon of Manchester after the referee stopped their fight in the first round.
