The winners of the Main Competition at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival have been announced, with the feature film “Atlantic Rhapsody” directed by Zhong Kaifeng (China), winning the top Golden Goblet award.

According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international film journalist, the closing and awards ceremony of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival took place at the Shanghai Grand Theatre in the populous Chinese city of Shanghai; during the event, the festival jury announced the winners of the Main Competition, Asian New Talent Competition, and other Competition categories including documentary, animation, and short film who then received their respective awards.

Shanghai is one of the world’s fifteen “A-list” festivals a status and level of prestige granted by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). It pursues several key objectives: fostering cultural dialogue; creating opportunities for co-productions; opening a vital gateway for international filmmakers to access China’s vast and thriving market; establishing a strategic platform to showcase the soft power of a developing China; attracting foreign investment; and restoring Shanghai’s historical standing as a cradle of Asian cinema during the 1920s and 1930s.

Jury members of the Main Competition

The jury members for the Main Competition of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) comprising Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai – Jury President, Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha, Chinese director Guan Hu, Kyrgyz director Aktan Arym Kubat, Georgian director and screenwriter Déa Kulumbegashvili, Mexican screenwriter, director, and producer Fernanda Valadez, and Chinese actress Xin Zhilei, announced the winners of this section as follows:

Golden Goblet Award

The main Golden Goblet award was presented to the feature film “Atlantic Rhapsody” directed by 29-year-old Chinese filmmaker Zhong Kaifeng a joint production of Romania, France, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Jury Grand Prix

The Jury Grand Prix was awarded to the feature film “Iluminada” directed by Nicolás Rincón Gille from Belgium.

Best Director Award

The Best Director award went to Yassine El Idrissi for directing the creative documentary “Halima” from Morocco.

Best Actor Award

The Best Actor award went to Zhang Songwen for his performance in the feature film “Secret in the Box” directed by Frankie Tam Kwong Yuen a joint production of China and Hong Kong.

Best Actress Award

The Best Actress award for this edition of the festival was presented to Khadija Amari for her role in the docudrama “Halima” directed by Yassine El Idrissi (Morocco).

Best Screenplay Award

The Best Screenplay award was awarded to Reis Çelik for writing the screenplay of the feature film “Night of Blindness” a joint production of Turkey and Germany.

Best Cinematography Award

The award for Best Cinematography went to Hao Jiayue for the film “Atlantic Rhapsody” directed by Zhong Kaifeng (China).

Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award

The award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement was presented to the film “The Miserable Mother” directed by Susanne Heinrich a joint production of Germany and France.

Jury Members for the Asian New Talent Competition

The Asian New Talent section focuses on the debut and sophomore films of Asian directors. The jury members comprising Singaporean director, screenwriter, and producer Anthony Chen – Jury President; Indonesian director and screenwriter Kamila Andini; Chinese director and screenwriter Liu Jiayin; Kazakh director and screenwriter Farkhat Sharipov; and Taiwanese actress Wen Qi announced the winners of this section as follows:

Best Film Award

The Best Film Award in the Asian New Talent competition went to the feature film “Her First Taste” directed by Gong Yiwen (China).

Best Director Award

The Best Director Award was presented to Sompot Chidgasornpongse (Thailand) for the feature film “9 Temples to Heaven”.

Best Actor Award

The Best Actor Award was awarded to Sompop Songkhampol (Thailand) for his performance in the feature film “9 Temples to Heaven”.

Best Actress Award

The Best Actress award went to Ma Fufu for her performance in the film “Her First Taste” directed by Gong Yi-won (China).

Best Screenplay Award

The Best Screenplay award went to Ridham Janve for writing the screenplay of the film “Hunter’s Moon” a joint production of India and Germany.

Best Cinematography Award

The Best Cinematography award was presented to Samiul Karim Shuptak for his cinematography work on the film “The Blind Girl and an Elephant” directed by Ishtiyak Ahmad Zihad a joint production of Bangladesh and Germany.

Best Documentary Film Award

The award for Best Documentary Film went to “Notes Unheard” directed by GU Jun (China).

Best Animated Feature Film Award

The award for Best Animated Feature Film went to “Lucy Lost” directed by Olivier Clert (France).

Best Live-Action Short Film Award

The award for Best Live-Action Short Film went to “Sitting Bird” directed by Athena Han (Canada).

Best Animated Short Film Award

The award for Best Animated Short Film went to “If Only” directed by Ada Güvenir from Belgium.

Screening of “Bashu, the Little Stranger” Directed by Bahram Beyzai

A restored 4K version of the feature film “Bashu, the Little Stranger” directed by the renowned Iranian filmmaker Bahram Beyzai was screened alongside 16 other restored films in the Classic Films section of this year’s festival.
