Australia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are set to mark a major milestone in their growing economic relationship with the arrival of the first dedicated direct Saudia Cargo flight to Australia.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to land at Melbourne Avalon Airport at 8:30am on Saturday, 25 July 2026, establishing Australia’s first direct air freight corridor with Saudi Arabia.

The new service is expected to provide Australian businesses with faster, more reliable and more competitive access to Saudi Arabia and other international markets across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

For Australian exporters, the dedicated cargo route will significantly increase freight capacity, particularly for industries that rely on timely and secure transportation.

The service is expected to support a broad range of Australian sectors, including premium food and agriculture, meat, seafood, dairy, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, mining and technology.

Strengthening Australia–Saudi Arabia Trade

The direct cargo route comes as Saudi Arabia continues its economic transformation under Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the Kingdom’s economy and establish the country as a major global logistics and trade hub.

The new connection will provide Australian exporters with direct access to Saudi Arabia’s growing market, while also opening pathways to strategic international trade routes.

It is also expected to strengthen supply-chain resilience by reducing reliance on traditional transhipment hubs and providing exporters with greater certainty and flexibility when transporting goods internationally.

The milestone follows extensive collaboration between the Australia Saudi Business Council, the Australian and Saudi governments, Saudia Cargo, Australian airports, logistics operators, freight providers and exporters.

Earlier this year, Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator Don Farrell, visited Saudi Arabia for discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.

Following the visit, the Australia Saudi Business Council accelerated the establishment of the Australia Saudi Logistics Alliance, bringing together government agencies, airports, airlines, freight forwarders, logistics providers and exporters.

National Airport Partnerships

As part of the initiative, the Australia Saudi Business Council has signed Memoranda of Understanding with Melbourne Avalon Airport, Western Sydney International Airport and Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

The partnerships are intended to create a national framework for future direct cargo services across Australia’s major export regions.

Melbourne Avalon Airport will be the first airport to receive the Saudia Cargo service, with future operations anticipated to expand across the broader Australian airport network.

Australia Saudi Business Council President Sam Jamsheedi described the inaugural flight as the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

He said the new corridor demonstrated what could be achieved when governments and industry worked together with a shared vision, providing Australian exporters with increased capacity, greater certainty and faster access to Saudi Arabia and surrounding markets.

Jamsheedi said Australia had significant opportunities to contribute to Saudi Arabia through its agriculture, food production, mining, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing and innovation sectors.

He also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role as a strategic gateway connecting businesses with markets across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

New Era of Connectivity

The Australia Saudi Business Council said the flight represented more than the arrival of a new aircraft or the launch of another freight service.

It described the route as the beginning of a new era of trade, connectivity and partnership between Australia and Saudi Arabia.

The Council will continue working with governments, airports and industry partners to establish regular, sustainable and nationally connected air freight services between the two countries.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to arrive at Melbourne Avalon Airport at 8:30am on Saturday, 25 July, with government representatives, industry leaders, exporters, freight operators and members of the Saudi diplomatic community invited to attend the historic landing.
