Liverpool City Council is gearing up for a spectacular Australia Day celebration on 26 January 2026, bringing together the city’s multicultural community for a day of pride, joy, and reflection.

Mayor Ned Mannoun says Australia Day in Liverpool is a time to celebrate not only being Australian, but also the extraordinary cultural diversity that shapes the fabric of one of Australia’s most dynamic cities.

“Our community is one of the most culturally rich in the nation,” Mayor Mannoun said.

“Australia Day in Liverpool is more than a date on the calendar, it’s a day when we come together with gratitude and pride.

“We celebrate our shared values, the diversity that enriches our lives, and the unity that makes our community strong. Whether welcoming new citizens, enjoying food, music and activities, or honouring local achievers, this is a day to be proud of being part of Liverpool.”

Citizenship Ceremony
A highlight of the day will be the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at Woodward Park, where 80 new residents from around the world are due to proudly become Australian citizens. This celebration of new nationhood is a cornerstone of Liverpool’s Australia Day, and Mayor Mannoun emphasises the deep significance of the ceremony in strengthening the city’s diverse community. We also welcome our Australia Day Ambassador: justice campaigner “the cop from Wagga Wagga”, Terry O’Connell OAM.

Liverpool Australia Day Awards
Council will also present the Liverpool Australia Day Awards and announce recipients in the Citizen of the Year and Community Group categories. These Awards recognise outstanding individuals and groups whose contributions have made a meaningful impact locally. These awards honour service, leadership, compassion and community spirit: qualities that define Liverpool’s people.
