AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST RAMADAN CULTURAL EVENT RETURNS TO LAKEMBA (19 FEB – 15 MAR)

Celebrate the flavours of the world and indulge in our shared love of food when Lakemba Nights during Ramadan returns to Canterbury-Bankstown. 

Coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan – the most sacred month in the Islamic calendar – this award-winning after dusk event has become one of the largest multicultural gatherings in Australia, attracting people from across the country and the world.

Thursday 19 February to Sunday 15 March,

6pm-2am every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night

Haldon Street and The Boulevarde, Lakemba

Around 60 businesses from Lakemba and beyond will help transform Haldon Street into a global bazaar with food stalls and trucks dishing up exotic cuisines like:

  • Camel dumplings, biryani, fiery charcoal meat skewers and spicy satay sticks.
  • Pani puri, dosa, chai and jalebi.
  • Rocket kulfi, fresh-made lemonade and sugar can juice.
  • Pistachio ice cream, mango lassi and bubble tea.
  • Street food favourites like chips on a stick, tacos, gozleme, crepes and fried chicken.

Meet vibrant vendors in a family-friendly atmosphere rooted in ancient tradition and take in new event experiences like Henna cultural experience stalls.

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said Lakemba Nights during Ramadan is an iconic cultural and culinary destination that showcases and embraces CBCity’s multicultural community.

“Our City is made up of over 150 nationalities and many of those involved in these moon-lit gatherings are from every part of the world – Lebanon, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Syria, Malaysia and Cocos Malay Islands, Indonesia and more.” 

“With more than a million people expected in 2026, I look forward to seeing many make their way to Lakemba to taste their way through the continents,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

About Ramadan 

Ramadan commemorates when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

During the month of Ramadan, people of Muslim faith fast during daylight hours, from dawn to sunset.   

At the end of each day, Muslims gather for Iftar – the evening meal to break their fast. Fasting, or ‘Sawm’, is one of the five pillars of Islam.

How to avoid the crowd 

Visitors who are planning to come with family, or just want to avoid the crowds, are encouraged to come along early in the evening, as stalls are open from dusk.  

Keep in mind 

Lakemba Nights during Ramadan is a significant event for the Muslim community and respect is key. It is an alcohol-free event and it is recommended to dress modestly. While it is an outdoor event, bringing pets is not recommended.
