Bankstown RSL held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday evening at its Meredith Street premises, marking a significant milestone with the retirement of longtime Chairman Bruce Pawley. After over 50 years of dedicated service to the board, Mr. Pawley stepped down to heartfelt tributes for his remarkable legacy and decades-long contribution to both the club and the wider Bankstown community.
Newly elected Chairman Tony Stewart made a heartfelt speech in honour of his predecessor, praising Mr Pawley’s steadfast leadership during some of the club’s most challenging times. Stewart emphasised how Pawley, alongside club CEO Scott Dickson, had steered the organisation from a massive financial deficit in the early 2000s to a thriving club with nearly $100 million in asset value today. His speech resonated with the audience, underscoring the respect and admiration Pawley has earned across generations of members.

Joining Stewart in leadership is Anne Garland, appointed as Vice Chairman, while Tuan Nguyen, Keith Menzies, John Player, Nahil Chidiac, and Filippa Alam were elected to serve as Directors on the board.
A key announcement during the evening was the official appointment of the Hon. Jason Clare MP as the patron of Bankstown RSL, a move met with strong approval from members.

The AGM also included reports from the Chairman and CEO, highlighting the club’s growth, community engagement, and plans for continued investment and development.
With new leadership at the helm and a proud legacy behind it, Bankstown RSL is poised to continue its strong trajectory of service and success in the years to come.
