Brady Ebert, the former guitarist of the Grammy-winning hardcore band Turnstile, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly hitting the father of the band’s frontman, Brendan Yates, with his car. The incident occurred on 29 March, when police discovered William Yates outside his home suffering from trauma to his lower extremities, including a broken bone protruding from his leg, as reported by the Baltimore Banner.

According to The Guardian, Ebert reportedly drove to the Yates residence, honked his horn, and swore before leaving, only to return later. It is alleged that William Yates threw a rock at Ebert’s car, prompting Ebert to drive into him as he attempted to run away. Ebert allegedly returned a second time to inform Yates that he “deserved it.”

Ebert, 33, was arrested on 31 March and is also facing a charge of first-degree assault. He is currently being held without bond. In court, he maintained his innocence, claiming that surveillance footage would contradict the accusations against him. However, Judge Sherri D. Koch characterized the incident as violent and targeted.

Turnstile released a statement indicating that William Yates is recovering from surgery following the attack. They expressed gratitude for his survival and emphasized their decision to sever ties with Ebert due to a history of harmful behavior that affected the band and the community. The band had previously attempted to support Ebert but ultimately found it necessary to establish boundaries due to escalating threats.

Ebert was a founding member of Turnstile, which formed in 2010, and he left the band in 2022. Following his departure, he formed another band called the Self-Evident Truth, but was later removed from that group after making allegations regarding Turnstile’s finances. The band has requested privacy as they navigate the ongoing situation surrounding Ebert’s actions.
