Arabic version: مجلس مدينة بريسبان يخصص 5.6 مليون دولار لبرنامج الصحة
Brisbane City Council has announced it will invest $5.6 million in health and wellness activities as part of its 2026/2027 budget. According to ABC News, this funding will enhance the Move Well Brisbane program, which aims to expand access to healthy activities for residents.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced that the initiative will introduce nutritional and cooking classes, while also doubling the number of providers and activities available. The Move Well Brisbane program builds upon the existing Active and Healthy program, which already offers thousands of free and low-cost activities throughout the city.
The new program is designed to significantly increase participation, with plans to expand the number of participating businesses to 400 and to more than double the number of sessions to 20,000 over the next two years. Schrinner emphasized the importance of providing affordable options for residents to maintain an active lifestyle.
Nutrition Australia Queensland will partner with the council to provide cooking and nutrition classes. Chief Executive Kirsty Elliott expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the program’s focus on helping households manage their food budgets effectively by teaching them how to prepare nutritious meals.
In addition to health initiatives, Schrinner noted that the budget will prioritize cost-of-living relief for residents, aiming to keep council rates the lowest in south-east Queensland. He reassured the community that the council is committed to minimizing costs wherever possible to support local families.
