A bulk carrier reported being attacked by multiple small craft off the coast of Iran, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred 11 nautical miles (20km) west of Sirik, Iran, in the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz.

UKMTO reported that all crew members aboard the unidentified northbound vessel were “reported safe” following the attack. The agency confirmed that there was “no environmental impact reported” from the incident.

Sirik, located on the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz, has been at the centre of the US-Israel war on Iran. Since the war began in late February, Iran has maintained a stranglehold on the waterway, impacting global oil, gas, and fertilizer supplies and contributing to rising prices.

In response to the situation, the United States has imposed a counter-blockade on Iranian ports since April 13. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that 49 vessels have been redirected under this blockade, emphasizing its commitment to total enforcement.

According to Al Jazeera, tensions in the region continue to escalate as maritime security remains a critical concern.
