Arabic version: سائق الحافلة يتنحى بعد سحب صبي في حادثة في ملبورن
A schoolboy was dragged for hundreds of metres down a suburban street in Wheelers Hill, Melbourne, after becoming trapped in a bus door. The incident, which occurred on March 16, was captured on CCTV and shared by the boy’s mother on social media. She reported that the bus continued to the next stop, where the doors opened, allowing her son to free himself.
According to ABC News, the Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan confirmed that the bus driver has been stood down following the emergence of the footage. Premier Allan expressed her concern for the boy and his family, stating, “Every parent wants to make sure their child gets to school safely, and that footage was just a shocking incident.”
Victoria Police are currently investigating the matter, although no police report had been filed at the time of the incident. A spokesperson mentioned that they are aware of the footage and are conducting enquiries.
The bus company, Ventura, is also undertaking an internal investigation into the occurrence. Premier Allan indicated that the government is looking into additional support for the affected family, having requested the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to reach out to them for further assistance. Meanwhile, the boy’s mother noted that Ventura had not provided support, instead directing the family to pursue a compensation claim through the TAC.
