Arabic version: الكاميرون تحرز لقبها الأول في كأس أمم أفريقيا للسيدات
According to Allafrica, Cameroon won their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with a 3-0 victory over Malawi in Sunday’s final in Morocco. Marie Ngah Manga scored twice in the first half as the Indomitable Lionesses ended a run of three final defeats.
Cameroon took control early at the Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat. Ngah Manga reacted to a loose ball in the penalty area to score from close range after 20 minutes. Naomi Eto added a second goal on the half-hour, before Ngah Manga struck again in the third minute of added time following an Eto pass.
Malawi, playing in their first continental championship final, trailed 3-0 at halftime after Cameroon’s dominant opening-half display. Ranked 153rd in the world and 32nd in Africa, Malawi had made a fairytale run to the decider.
“I feel like it’s a dream because you know Cameroon have been working hard to have this moment and today for us to be champion of Africa is a very, very wonderful thing,” Ngah Manga said. Cameroon had failed to qualify for the previous edition and had lost their three prior finals, all against 10-time champions Nigeria.
FIFA chief Gianni Infantino presented Cameroon’s medals alongside Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe. Cameroon received $2 million in prize money and became the fourth nation to win the tournament since it began in 1998, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. Cameroon and Malawi will both play at the 2027 Women’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
