Arabic version: كارلوس ألكاراز ينسحب من بطولة فرنسا المفتوحة بسبب إصابة في المعصم

Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will miss the upcoming French Open due to an ongoing wrist injury. The world number two announced his withdrawal following tests that confirmed the severity of his condition. Alcaraz had already pulled out of the Barcelona Open after injuring his right wrist during his first-round match.

According to BBC News, Alcaraz expressed his decision to forgo participation in the Italian Open and French Open on Instagram. He stated that caution was necessary as he evaluates his recovery timeline. “After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros, while we assess the situation to determine when we can return to the court,” he wrote.

The 22-year-old had a strong start to the year, winning his first Australian Open title and becoming the youngest player to achieve a career Grand Slam. Last season, he dominated the clay-court season, securing titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Roland Garros. However, he recently lost his world number one ranking to rival Jannik Sinner after a defeat in the Monte Carlo final.

Alcaraz’s absence from the French Open not only impacts his ranking but also opens the door for Sinner to pursue his own career Grand Slam, as the French Open is the only major title he has yet to win. Since qualifying for his first Slam in 2021, Alcaraz has only missed one event due to injury, which was the 2023 Australian Open due to a hamstring injury.
