According to ABC News, Carlton hosted Gold Coast at Docklands Stadium in an AFL round 20 match with both sides needing a win to keep their wildcard hopes alive. The live score showed Carlton on 11.9 (75) and Gold Coast on 10.4 (64) during the second half.

Gold Coast responded through Joel Jeffrey, who kicked his third goal of the afternoon, and Bailey Humphrey, who kicked his second. Carlton had already lost Nic Newman for the day with a hamstring injury.
