According to Cnbc, Cboe Global Markets will extend trading hours on Monday for options tied to 24 actively traded companies and five exchange-traded funds. The exchange and the Options Clearing Corp. received regulatory approval to offer the additional sessions after the Securities and Exchange Commission first approved the plan in May.
Eligible options will trade from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET and from 4 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET. Cboe already provides premarket and postmarket trading for index options. Exchange data shared with CNBC showed a record average of 228,097 options traded daily in the premarket index-options session during the last quarter.
The initial group includes the Magnificent Seven, Oracle, Micron, Robinhood, Nokia, Palantir, Pfizer and Alibaba. The ETF options are tied to the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, Invesco QQQ Trust, iShares Russell 2000 ETF, SPDR Gold Shares and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF. Cboe said the list will be updated twice a year.
To qualify, underlying securities must have average daily options volume of at least 150,000 contracts over the prior six months, a market value of $50 billion and average daily stock volume of at least 10 million shares. Brokers including TradeStation and Robinhood Markets have said they will offer the sessions. Cboe also plans to list additional morning expiries for options on Nov. 9 and has received SEC approval to offer binary options linked to company-specific key performance indicators.
