According to Cnbc, Coca-Cola has hired Rob Gehring, the head of Monster Energy’s Americas business, to run its North American unit. Gehring will take over the role on Dec. 1, the companies said Friday.

The appointment comes as Coca-Cola seeks to maintain growth while U.S. consumers reduce spending in response to higher gas and grocery prices. The beverage company reported 7% net sales growth in the second quarter, while North American volume, a measure of demand, increased 3%.

Gehring, 59, assumed his most recent role at Monster in February after serving as chief growth officer since 2024. Coca-Cola said he was part of the leadership team that drove Monster’s growth agenda and modernized its commercial capabilities.

Monster Beverage, Coca-Cola’s smaller rival in the energy-drink market, reported 20% net sales growth in its second quarter. Its sales have risen in part through innovation in energy drinks.

Before joining Monster, Gehring was chief executive of Swire Coca-Cola USA, a major bottler of Coca-Cola products in the western United States. Coca-Cola is also investing in beverages beyond its core soda lineup, including refreshers and dirty sodas. Coca-Cola shares have climbed more than 25% this year, while Monster stock has risen more than 12%.
