On Monday evening, 16 February 2026, community leaders, health professionals, and business figures gathered at Bankstown RSL for the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) Men’s Health & Wellbeing Event — an initiative that brought vital conversations about men’s physical and mental health into the spotlight.

With more than 150 attendees in the room, the event became far more than a networking opportunity. It evolved into a meaningful platform for dialogue, reflection, and action — centred on improving the wellbeing of men across the Canterbury-Bankstown region.

A Panel Bridging Experience and Expertise

The evening featured a diverse and insightful panel representing government, science, sport, and community advocacy.

Among the speakers were:

  • the Hon. Jihad Dib MP, NSW Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Minister for Emergency Services, and Minister for Youth Justice
  • Paul Signorelli OAM, Executive Chairman of Doltone House Hospitality Group and Board Member of Cure The Future Foundation
  • Tevita Funa, former NRL and NSW Waratahs athlete and passionate men’s health advocate
  • Professor Andrew Coats AO, Scientific Director and former CEO of The Heart Research Institute

The discussion was moderated by Tracy Alexakis, CBCC Board Member and Chair of the CBCC Women’s Committee, who guided the conversation toward practical outcomes and long-term impact.

Breaking the Silence Around Men’s Health

The central theme of the evening was clear: men’s health is not just a personal issue — it is a community responsibility.

Panellists explored the social and cultural barriers that often prevent men from seeking help, whether for physical illness or mental wellbeing. By combining professional expertise with lived experience, the discussion highlighted the importance of early intervention, open communication, and accessible support systems.

The presence of leaders from different sectors reinforced a powerful message — improving men’s health outcomes requires collaboration across government, community organisations, business networks, and advocacy groups.

From Awareness to Action

Beyond the discussion itself, the evening created opportunities for connection and shared commitment. Attendees engaged in conversations aimed at strengthening support networks and fostering initiatives that can lead to tangible improvements in men’s health outcomes across the region.

The event underscored that addressing men’s wellbeing goes beyond medical solutions. It requires building environments where men feel supported to speak openly, seek assistance, and prioritise their overall health.

A Step Towards Stronger Communities

By bringing together influential voices and grassroots perspectives, the CBCC Men’s Health & Wellbeing Event demonstrated how community-led initiatives can play a crucial role in shaping healthier futures.

The message that resonated throughout the night was simple yet powerful: stronger communities begin with healthier individuals — and meaningful change starts with conversation.
