Dr Andrew Charlton, Federal Member for Parramatta, recently met with community representatives Elie Kaltoum, Dr Charbel Tadros and Bedro Hajji for a productive discussion focused on local heritage, community engagement and future media collaboration.

The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships between the federal representative and local community leaders, with discussions reflecting a shared commitment to protecting Parramatta’s heritage while supporting the area’s continued growth and development.

A key topic was the recent heritage recognition of Elizabeth Farm, which was welcomed as an important outcome for the local community. The representatives highlighted concerns about inappropriate high-rise development near significant heritage sites, including the potential impact on the surrounding cathedral and community activities.

Dr Charlton acknowledged the importance of preserving the character and amenity of historically significant locations, noting that unsuitable development can affect not only the visual identity of an area but also the ability of local communities to continue hosting events and gatherings.

During the conversation, Elie Kaltoum expressed appreciation for Dr Charlton’s engagement with the community and spoke positively about his long-term vision and ambition for the electorate and Australia more broadly. The meeting reflected a strong sense of mutual respect, with all participants recognising the value of ongoing dialogue between elected representatives and community organisations.

Dr Charlton also shared an anecdote about presenting a seed to the Prime Minister for planting at The Lodge in Canberra.

The gathering concluded with the presentation of a commemorative gift from the Australian Federation of Northern Lebanon represented by Elie Kaltoum. Dr Charlton expressed his appreciation for the thoughtful gesture, which included an ornamental box, before joining Elie Kaltoum, Dr Charbel Tadros and Bedro Hajji for photographs beside the flags.

The meeting reinforced the value of constructive relationships between political representatives, community leaders and multicultural media organisations, with all parties expressing a desire to continue working together in support of the local community.
