Nathan Hagarty, Labor candidate for Leppington, has welcomed the announcement of a review to South-Western Sydney’s train timetable as a “win for the community.”

Mr Hagarty, a lifelong local resident who has spent many hours on Sydney Trains over the years to get to work in the city or Parramatta, has been calling for a review of the train timetables since 2017.

Currently, trains from Leppington only travel by the T2 South Line, meaning that residents have to change at Glenfield for quicker T8 Airport Line trains to the City Circle. There are also a limited number of T5 Cumberland Line trains during peak time, however direct trains to Parramatta are unavailable outside of these times.

Mr Hagarty has noted that many local residents have raised this issue with him over the years, particularly those traveling from Leppington and Edmondson Park stations.

“Residents in Leppington have some of the longest train commutes in Sydney. Locals are spending upwards of an hour on trains, made worse by the need to continually change trains to get to major hubs like the city or Parramatta,” Mr Hagarty said.

“Labor has listened, and we will work towards solutions that will ensure local residents spend less time on their commutes, and more time with their families.”

Mr Hagarty added that this review will consider the viability of direct trains to the city via the Airport Line, as well as more direct trains to Parramatta.

“Local residents have been crying out for this for years, however their calls have landed on deaf ears under the NSW Liberals.

“It’s been a long time coming, but I am intent on delivering a better train service to take the pressure off local workers and their families.”
