Antony Catalano’s assault case will return to court in October after his lawyer was granted a longer-than-usual adjournment. According to ABC News, the former Australian Community Media executive is accused of assaulting his wife at their St Kilda penthouse in March.

The case will drag on for several more months as Catalano’s lawyers continue to negotiate with prosecutors. The 59-year-old is charged with attacking his wife Stefanie and threatening to kill her during an altercation in his St Kilda penthouse.

Catalano allegedly swung a clothes iron at his wife’s head and dragged her through the apartment. He was released on bail after his arrest, with conditions recently varied to allow him to travel to Byron Bay and spend time with his wife, who has been supportive of the changes.

On Wednesday, his lawyer Tony Hargreaves requested to adjourn the case until October 16, citing the need for additional time to obtain expert reports and continue discussions with prosecutors. Hargreaves noted there were “reasons” for the lengthy adjournment but did not elaborate in front of the media.

Catalano faces multiple charges, including assault, false imprisonment, making threats to kill, and recklessly causing injury. He recently resigned from his directorship of holding companies associated with ACM and Southern Cross Media, with his son taking over his position. Catalano previously held significant roles in the media industry, including at Fairfax Media and Domain, before becoming part-owner of ACM in a deal worth $115 million in 2019.
