Disney’s beloved musical The Lion King is set to make its return to the Sydney stage, opening at the Capitol Theatre on April 18. The production features an international cast, including Aphiwe Nyezi, who will portray Simba. Nyezi, originally from South Africa, expressed his excitement about being part of the show that inspired him during his childhood, despite not having regular access to a television.
Nick Afoa, who plays Mufasa, brings his own unique experience to the role. Having previously played Simba 13 years ago, Afoa reflects on his journey through the musical. Buyi Zama returns to the role of Rafiki for the third time in Sydney, having previously performed in 2003 and 2013. Zama, who has relocated to Perth, is excited to introduce her daughter to the production, emphasizing that The Lion King is a family show that appeals to audiences of all ages. She noted the buzz on social media as anticipation builds for the upcoming performances.
