A serious incident occurred in Arnold town centre early this morning when a red Vauxhall Astra collided with “multiple pedestrians,” resulting in one person suffering life-threatening injuries. The accident took place in Market Place at about 01:10 BST, according to Nottinghamshire Police.
The driver, believed to be a white man, abandoned the car and left the scene after the collision. Authorities have stated that there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. A cordon has been established around the area, and several road closures are in effect as investigations proceed.
Market Place and the junctions from Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane, and Central Avenue are closed to traffic. Police expect these closures will remain in place “for some time,” urging the public to avoid the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow reassured the community, noting that while there is no ongoing threat, the incident may cause concern. Officers will continue to be present at the scene to conduct inquiries and provide reassurance. Authorities are also appealing for any witnesses or individuals with relevant footage to come forward. According to BBC News, police are actively seeking information to aid their investigation.
