Arabic version: تصاعد العنف في غزة والضفة الغربية يبرز الأزمة الإنسانية
Intensified violence and evictions marked a turbulent week in Gaza and the West Bank, with coordinated attacks by settlers and ongoing Israeli air strikes exacerbating the humanitarian situation. According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli government has faced criticism for its policies, which UN experts describe as contributing to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian territories.
In Gaza, air strikes and drone attacks continued throughout the week, resulting in significant civilian casualties. On April 14, a strike on a police vehicle in Gaza City killed four people, including three-year-old Yahya al-Malahi. The violence persisted as strikes on the Shati refugee camp and other areas led to additional fatalities, with reports indicating that 777 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire on October 7, 2023.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has deepened, with aid access severely restricted. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported a 37 percent decline in aid inflows following the ceasefire, prompting bakeries to reduce production due to a lack of essential supplies. Israeli restrictions at border crossings have been highlighted as the primary obstacle to delivering sufficient aid.
In the West Bank, settlers launched coordinated attacks on several villages near Ramallah, with reports of violence and property damage. Settler groups established new outposts on Palestinian land, leading to confrontations with residents. Israeli forces reportedly facilitated these attacks, contributing to a climate of fear and displacement among the local population. The latest reports indicate that over 2,500 Palestinians have been displaced this year due to demolitions and settler violence, with children constituting a significant portion of those affected.
