The family of a late South Australian man, Stephen King, has spoken out following a government email blunder that mistakenly attributed a positive message about the state’s health system to him. According to ABC News, the incident has sparked a pre-election controversy for the South Australian government.

Debbie King, the widow of the late Stephen King, expressed that she is not upset about the mistake and has accepted an apology from SA Health Minister Chris Picton. She emphasized her desire for her husband to be remembered for his positivity and love of life.

The confusion arose when Health Minister Picton released a statement regarding the positive feedback from a Stephen King about his experience with the public health system. However, it turned out that the email was authored by another Stephen King, who passed away in 2024 after battling prostate cancer.

Debbie recounted her husband’s life, sharing fond memories of their time together on their hobby farm and his passion for football. She reflected on the joyful moments they shared, including his excitement when his favorite football team won the grand final in 2023.

Despite the emotional nature of the incident, Debbie noted that it has brought back happy memories of her late husband. She expressed sympathy for Bronwen Paterson, who originally shared a story about her partner, and acknowledged the emotional toll of the mix-up. Debbie concluded by emphasizing her husband’s legacy of positivity and the close bond they shared.
