Arabic version: تملك صندوق عائلة تيم ويلسون أسهمًا غير معلنة في شركة مناخية
Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson is under scrutiny for holding undisclosed shares in a climate advisory firm through his family investment trust. According to ABC News, Wilson’s trust owns 15,000 shares in a small company called Gondwana Carbon, which helps businesses develop emissions reduction projects and trade carbon credits.
Gondwana Carbon operates under a scheme that the Coalition government, of which Wilson is a member, has pledged to scrap. While Wilson has disclosed his directorships in two trusts, he has not reported the shares held within those trusts on his parliamentary register, which is required by MPs.
Wilson’s spokesperson has defended his actions, stating that the trust has been declared and asserting that he does not personally own the shares. However, MPs are obligated to notify any relevant interests in shares, including those held indirectly through a family or business trust.
The shadow treasurer’s investment trust previously held a directorship in Gondwana Carbon until May 29 of last year, shortly after his second election to parliament. While that directorship has ended, the shares remain in the trust’s possession. Additionally, Wilson and his partner’s trust had shares in another advisory firm, Spektrum Holdings, which were also not disclosed.
Wilson’s financial dealings have attracted criticism in the past, including a controversial investment in an exchange-traded fund that profits when Australia’s sharemarket declines. Despite the scrutiny, he maintains that his financial declarations are compliant with regulations.
